South Korea to open Consulate General in Da Nang

On Monday, the Korean Broadcasting System quoted an official of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as saying that the Ministry has considered the opening of a consulate office in Da Nang due to the dramatic increase in the number of Korean visitors to the city in recent years.

Currently, the Ministry is urgently discussing the issue with the country’s budget and administrative agencies. If all procedures related to budget, human resources, location, infrastructure and equipment are complete as scheduled, the Consulate General of South Korea in Da Nang will be opened in the second half of next year.

With a population of over 1 million people, Da Nang is one of Viet Nam’s popular destinations for visitors from both home and abroad. The city is emerging as a new industrial urban area with many hi-tech parks.

According to the Korean Tourism Organisation (KTO), a total of over 2.4 million tourists from the country visited Viet Nam in 2017, a significant rise against the previous year.

Currently, South Korea is operating its Embassy in Ha Noi, and a Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City.
